Visages of victory
Public intervention, 2019, Paris

In order to resolve the mystery of Nike’s appearance, the primary source of information was the imagination of the onlookers of the Winged Victory at her original version in the Louvre. Worksheets with a print of the statue were given out and instructions for the audience to draw on it what they thought the statue’s arms and head would have looked like before they were lost forever, as well as to sign their artwork. The drawings cultivated were then compiled into an animation overlaid on a video of the Winged Victory exhibit at the Louvre, serving to reflect upon how imagination can compensate for gaps in human and collective historical memory. This project was a collaboration with Nicola Carsley.
